If you didn’t already know, Vitamin C showerheads are a great way to reduce dangerous chlorine and chloramines from your water. This is important because these chemicals are not only absorbed by your skin, but they are vaporized and breathed into your lungs as you shower.
So, now that you understand the importance of adding nontoxic Vitamin C to your shower water, now let’s talk about how you care for, maintain, and refill your showerhead or filter.

I recommend this vitamin C powder showerhead or this inline vitamin C filter that you use with your current showerhead.
1. Pull Showerhead Apart
Take the showerhead apart by carefully unscrewing components and removing refillable filter.
For Vitamin C Powder Showerheads:
- Vitamin C Chlorine Removing Showerhead
- Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C) Powder
- INSTRUCTIONS: Put 3 level teaspoons of vitamin C powder into the orange reservoir using a funnel. Replace cap and place inside handle.
For Vitamin C Filters:
2. Tackle the Limescale Buildup
After about 4 months (with really hard water), the lime buildup on my showerhead made it look years old! Luckily, there is a super simple natural solution for removing limescale.
Vinegar!
Now, I’m not a huge fan of using vinegar-based spray cleaners because I can’t stand the smell. But this. This is magic.
Simply fill a zip bag with distilled white vinegar and soak showerhead for 30-45 minutes. Then remove showerhead and wipe off lime with a washcloth. It will wipe right off!
Lime is alkaline. Vinegar is an acid. It’s real life chemistry, y’all!
3. Disinfect the Showerhead
Optionally, you can disinfect your showerhead using hydrogen peroxide in a sink of water. This is not necessary if you soaked the showerhead in vinegar, which also does a great job of killing microbes.
Simply mix 1 cup of hydrogen peroxide to a sink full of water and soak showerhead for 20 minutes.
4. Reassemble Showerhead
Reassemble showerhead and enjoy!
